The Church around the world has traditionally prepared their hearts for Easter with a season of fasting and prayer. Fasting is not meant to win God's favor. Fasting is a way that Jesus and his followers set aside something that consumes a lot of their time and thought life in order to focus more fully upon God. One can fast from many things (food, technology, sports, social media, etc.). At Westside, we are seeking to embrace the heart of the original tradition of fasting and prayer. As Easter approaches, are there things that you could give up that would help you to more fully focus upon God? Would you be willing to fast one meal a week and use that time in prayer (see the prayer guides below).
