God's Promises

There are so many voices right now competing for our attention: Facebook, television, news feed, talk show hosts, friends, work colleagues, and on and on.  Yet, God's Word is the TRUTH.  His Promises are unbreakable.  If we are not careful, we can allow all the competing voices to crowd out the TRUTH of God found in his Word.  Take a moment to post a Bible passage that God is using or has used in your life.  You can just post the passage and let it speak for itself, or you can also tell us how that passage is speaking TRUTH to the many voices competing for your attention.

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
Do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
That I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, O Lord
Teach me your decrees.
With my lips I recount all the laws
That come from your mounth.
I rejoice in following your statutes
As one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate upon your precepts
And consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:9-16

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the LORD has helped us.’ ” - 1 Samuel 7:12

“To mark is to give credence to or to place a symbol for remembrance. Marking something is making meaning in the present moment that will influence the way we remember in the future.” - quote from Theology of the Womb by Christy Bauman

I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of ebeneezers. It seems to be a practice of importance in biblical culture that has been mostly lost in modern American culture. Our lives are journeys with so much hardship and goodness, grief and joy, trials and peace. All equally important in experiencing and knowing God. In what ways do we create ebeneezers to mark these times/events in our lives? In what ways do we try to hold and remember God’s presence in our lives during those times? (Even when it may have felt like an absence of His presence.)

Maybe it’s journal entries. Maybe it’s a work of art hung on our wall. Maybe it’s a tree or a plant. Maybe it’s a stuffed animal. Maybe it’s a special blanket or pillow. Maybe it’s a piercing or a tattoo. Maybe it’s an ornament. Maybe it’s a piece of clothing. Maybe it’s a song or musical composition. Maybe it’s a quote from a book. Maybe it’s a passage of scripture. Maybe it’s a stack of stones.

My tattoos are ebeneezers, some of them representing the following scriptures:

“whom having not seen, ye love. In Him, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory,” - 1 Peter 1:8 (KJV)

“It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This signet from God is the first installment on what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life.” - Ephesians 1:13 (MSG)

"I will give thanks unto You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works; and that my soul knows right well." - Psalms 139:14

“When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.” - Psalms 27:2-3

“Jesus wept.” - John 11:35

What are your ebeneezers?

Isaiah 59:20-21 The Voice
20 Eternal One: The Redeemer will come to make Zion right again,
to rescue those of Jacob’s holy line who turn their backs on wrongdoing.

This is what the Eternal One declares.

Eternal One: 21 This is My covenant promise to them: My Spirit, which rests on and moves in you, and My words, which I have placed within you, will continue to be spoken among you and move you to action. And not only you, but so it will be for your children and their children too. And so on through the generations for all time.

Jeremiah 31:33-34 The Voice
33 This is the kind of new covenant I will make with the people of Israel when those days are over. I will put My law within them. I will write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people. 34 No longer will people have to teach each other or encourage their family members and say, “You must know the Eternal.” For all of them will know Me intimately themselves—from the least to the greatest of society. I will be merciful when they fail and forgive their wrongs. I will never call to mind or mention their sins again.

Praising and affirming God for The Gospel truth. His will be done.

“The mountains might shake. The hills might be removed. But my faithful love for you will never be shaken. And my covenant that promises peace to you will never be removed,” says the LORD. He shows you his loving concern.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭54:10‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

John 14:6 The Voice
Jesus: I am the path, the truth, and the energy of life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Matthew 1:21
She will have a son, and you will name Him Jesus, which means “the Lord saves,” because this Jesus is the person who will save all of His people from sin.

The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever in the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.

Psalm 25:14&15

To think that the LORD would confide in me!

Isaiah 30:18

Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you,
And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
How blessed are all those who long for Him.

“The Lord loves us very much. So we haven’t been completely destroyed. His loving concern never fails. His great love is new every morning. Lord, how faithful you are! I say to myself, “The Lord is everything I will ever need. So I will put my hope in him.””
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:22-24‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

“In the past, God spoke to our people through the prophets. He spoke at many times. He spoke in different ways. But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one whom God appointed to receive all things. God also made everything through him. The Son is the shining brightness of God’s glory. He is the exact likeness of God’s being. He uses his powerful word to hold all things together. He provided the way for people to be made pure from sin. Then he sat down at the right hand of the King, the Majesty in heaven.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-3‬ ‭NIRV‬‬
